Acupuncture for Acne
ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR ACNE
Acupuncturists and practitioners of TCM see acne as a disharmony in the inner body. Often the cause is seen to be the accumulation of damp heat causing blockage and subsequent eruptions of acne.
Acupuncture treatments and/or Chinese herbal medicine can be effective in clearing acne and, together with proper diet, preventing its return. There are several acupuncture body points and channels such as Large Intestine, Lung, and Stomach that are useful for cooling of the blood clearing heat, and reducing damp. These are some of the systemic causes of acne.
Acupuncture for acne is usually a long-term process. Treatments will often be repeated two times a week to effect a complete reversal. The treatment will likely include diet restrictions and herbal supplements.
One approach is to surround the lesion with small needles. This is known as “surrounding the dragon.” Another approach is to insert small needles directly into the lesion until pus or blood appears. These techniques will only be useful when coupled with the long-term treatments that address the underlying causes of heat and damp.
